Comic Book Page - Sketch and Ink Progress Photos

Well, I've finished the sketching and ink stages! 

The above page is the page from the Avengers vs. X-Men comic I'm drawing from.

Right now, I'm working on using colored pencils to color the page. I'm planning on getting a computer program so I can begin coloring my comic book drawings digitally.

Current Artwork in Project

Working on a new project! I'm looking at a page from the, "Avengers vs. X-Men" comic #2, and planning to draw it onto some of the largest paper I've ever worked with (18in x 24in). Trying to learn all about the spacing and composition of comic book panels

Going to experiment with doing one whole page onto one sheet of paper (what I'm doing now), and will then work on turning the sketchbook the other way, and draw two adjacent pages on one sketchbook page... Probably won't turn out the way I'm thinking it will, but right now, it's all about experimenting! :)

I'm almost done with the pencil sketch (the photo above was before I started), and just have the bottom right panel to sketch out! After I'm done, I'll be taking a picture of the drawing in pencil, post it, and then move onto the pen/inking phase.

New Experiment: Black Paper and White Charcoal Sketches

I'm starting to work with a new medium! After a quick trip to Michael's the other day, I ended up buying a pad of black sketch paper, and two white charcoal pencils. I wanted to experiment with drawing a subject on black paper, with a white pencil or ink, but had no idea if it would work or not. So far, I've been very pleased with the results!

This was a quick sketch I did to try out the new materials the first night I had them. Some of you may remember, the koi fish is from a watercolor painting I did a while back. The rest is just random doodling. 

I put this medium to the test the next day, by trying to draw a picture I found of a Wolverine-Venom character. I sketched it out with a regular pencil and went over it with the charcoal, adding shading and details as I went along. 

So far, the combination of the paper and the charcoal is really fun to work with! It kind of reminds me of drawing on a chalkboard. It's so exciting every time I try a new medium, and it's even more exciting when an experiment or idea works! This is definitely opens up new possibilities for learning a new style of art!

Latest Artwork: Wolverine!

Here's my latest drawing!

My latest drawing is of Wolverine! :) One of my favorite X-Men! (Along with Nightcrawler, and Gambit, and Storm, and...) Anyway, I haven't drawn any superheroes for a while, and just felt like drawing one. I looked at a drawing of Wolverine and drew that figure, but all of the background and foreground details are my own. Trying to expand and add a world for the character to be in!

I've been trying to draw things - specifically people - without looking at anything, but in my recent anatomy drawings (which I'll be posting to my blog soon), I've gotten more practice in sketching the human form. That being said, I'm continuing to learn how the human form is able to move by following other artist's examples, reading books about how to draw superheroes, and making sketches of people in photographs to gain even more experience in understanding anatomy. This drawing only took about an hour and a half to draw (the shading took  a bit longer), when it once would have taken me all day long to get the proportions right. I definitely feel more comfortable drawing people than I have in the past!

If I get the chance, I'll be writing a few more posts over the next few days, and may even get the chance to draw some new characters! As always, please share my blog, and leave any comments or suggestions you have, below!

Original Sketch - Playing Poker

Hey there! I know it's been a while since I've posted something or updated anything.

I wanted to share with you a sketch I did a few weeks ago that I never got around to posting. 

This drawing is free-handed, aside from looking up a few reference images. At first, I started drawing the man on the couch. When I took a break from drawing, I watched the James Bond movie, Casino Royale, and was then inspired to make my sketch take place in the midst of a poker game. 

If I could change one thing about this drawing, is that the bottles and shelves on the back wall would be straighter. I accidentally drew those on an angle, and didn't realize my mistake until I had finished drawing the shelves and everything on it.

As I said before, this is original. If you have any advice, suggestions, or comments on what could be improved, I'd love to hear it! Have an idea on what could have been added to make the scene more realistic? Have a trick to prevent mistakes like the crooked shelves and bottles? Share them in the comments! :) 

Anastasia - 1997 Animated Movie

Happy I'm getting a chance to post a new piece of artwork!

Here's the Anastasia cartoon drawing I just finished, from the 1997 animated movie. I watched this movie quite a lot when I was little, and stumbled upon the song, "Once Upon a December," from the film. Decided to draw her after that! Used pencil to draw it, went over it with Sharpie, then used colored pencils. Trying to work on developing the shading on my drawings a bit more.

About to start work on a new drawing! No clue what to draw as of yet, but I'll figure it out ;D haha Thanks for taking the time to view my blog!

Sherlock Holmes and Assassin's Creed

Hey there everyone! I know it's been a long time since I made a new post, but I have only done a few drawings since my last post. Enjoy!

Drawing of John Watson from BBC's Sherlock from the Reichenbach Fall talking to Sherlock on the top of the building. Just finished watching the series a few months ago, and loved it!

I've also been playing Assassin's Creed for the first time - I started with Assassin's Creed Unity, and will be playing the first games to understand the storyline better, as well as Assassins Creed Black Flag.  Here is a drawing of Elise De LaSerre and a drawing of Arno Dorian. I see some adjustments that can be made, but I think it's pretty good for a first attempt! I used colored pencils and sharpies to draw these. Planning on drawing more characters from these games!
